With fall here and winter snow showers just around the corner, it’s important to have wiper blades that are in good working condition. New wiper blades can increase visibility for safer driving, making them as important a tool in your arsenal as any. Take care of this easy and affordable maintenance task by following these steps to change your vehicle’s wiper blades.
Get the right new blades
To ensure that you’re buying the correct size of wiper blades, check your owner’s manual. If you’re not sure, Dave Smith Ford can look up the correct size by searching your vehicle’s make, model, and year. (More on that in a bit.)
Remove the old blades
To remove the old wiper blades, pull your car’s wiper arms up so that they are perpendicular to the windshield. Place a towel or an old shirt beneath the wipers to protect the glass in case one of the bare arms should snap down while you’re changing the blades. You’ll find a small tab beneath the blade where it connects to the wiper arm. Push the tab to release the blade, then pull it down and off the arm.
Replace with the new
Now you can attach the new wiper blades by pulling them upwards along the wiper arm until they click into place where the old blades were. Before you wrap up, be sure to turn on your car and test out the wipers to ensure they are securely and correctly connected.
